Add an SSH key
Save your public key once, and it goes on every server you build from then on.
An SSH key logs you in without a password. Keys belong to the organisation: add one on SSH keys and every VPS built after that gets it. A dedicated server asks which keys to use when you install it.
Add a key#
Open SSH keys from the side menu.
- 1Public key Paste the file ending
.pub, usually~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub. - 2Name Optional. Something to tell your keys apart, such as Work laptop.
- 3Add key Saves it for every new server.
- 4Don't have a key? Opens the two commands that make one, with copy buttons.
Don't have a key?#
In a terminal, run this and press Enter through the questions:
ssh-keygen -t ed25519Then print the public half and paste it into the form:
cat ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pubYour keys#
- 1Fingerprint Matches a key to a computer. Run
ssh-keygen -lf ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pubthere and compare. - 2Remove Takes it off the list, so new servers don't get it. Servers that already have it keep it.
To take keys off a running VPS, use Revoke all… on its Access tab: see Add and revoke SSH keys.
Owners, admins and operators can add and remove keys. Viewers see the list only.
