Help Dedicated servers Get started
Your server's page
Every button and card on a dedicated server's page, pointed at, plus what each state means.
Open your server from Servers. Point at a number, or at a button, to see what it does.
- 1Rename Changes the name the portal shows and the next install is given. The running system keeps its own hostname.
- 2Console Opens the server's own screen and keyboard in your browser, for when SSH can't reach it.
- 3Reboot The hardware reset button. It restarts at once, without shutting down first.
- 4Power off Cuts the power at once, like pulling the plug. Anything not saved to disk is lost.
- 5Networking Every address, its netmask and gateway, and its reverse DNS.
- 6Reinstall Install an operating system, boot a rescue system, or reset the root password.
- 7Upgrade Ask for an extra IPv4 address, more memory, more disks or a bigger machine.
- 8Activity Everything done to the server, by you or by us, newest first.
- 914 days Changes the range the bandwidth covers: 24 hours, 14 days or 30 days.
- 1095th percentile The rate the server stayed at or under for 95% of the time, with short bursts left out.
- 11Copy Copies the SSH command, ready to paste into a terminal.
- 12Reset… Takes you to the Reinstall tab to set a new root password.
- 13Cancel at renewal… Stops the server at the end of the period you've paid for.
What the state means#
The word beside the name is what the machine last reported, not a live reading. Give it a minute after pressing a button, then refresh.
| State | What it means | Power buttons |
|---|---|---|
| Running | The machine is on. | ✓ |
| Stopped | The machine is off. Press Start to turn it on. | ✓ |
| Installing | An operating system is being laid down. | – |
| Booting rescue | A rescue system is starting over the network. Your disks aren't touched. | – |
| Suspended | On hold, usually for an unpaid invoice. Your disks aren't touched. | – |
When it's off, Start takes the place of Reboot and Power off:
- 1Start Turns the machine on.
When the bandwidth won't load#
The Bandwidth card loads a moment after the page. If it can't be read, press Try again:
- 1Try again Reads the counters again.
