Help Dedicated servers How-to
Reset the root password
Set a new root password on a Linux dedicated server without a reinstall; it takes about five minutes and one reboot.
The server boots a small rescue system, writes a new root password on your installed system, and boots back. Your files and SSH keys stay as they are.
Reset it#
Press Reset… in the Connect card on the server's page, or open the Reinstall tab and choose Reset the root password:
- 1Reset password Type your server's name in the box above it, then press this. It reboots into the rescue system and writes the new password.
The next page shows the new password once. Copy it, then press I've copied it, back to the server.
