Dedicated servers
A dedicated server is a whole physical machine of your own, with root access to its operating system.
You manage it from its page under Servers in the portal: see Your server's page for every button on it. The server is unmanaged: what runs on it is yours to run, and we help on a ticket or on Discord. There are no backups or IPv6 yet; both are coming soon.
Most people start with these:
- While your server is set up: what happens between paying and logging in.
- Log in for the first time: collect the root password and connect over SSH.
- Locked out, or it won't boot: three ways back in that keep your files.

While your server is set up What happens between paying and logging in, how long it usually takes, and the email that says it is ready.Log in for the first time Collect the root password once from the server's page, then connect over SSH.Your server's page Every button and card on a dedicated server's page, pointed at, plus what each state means.How-to
Reinstall the operating system Erase the disks and install a fresh operating system on a dedicated server; your addresses stay the same.Reset the root password Set a new root password on a Linux dedicated server without a reinstall; it takes about five minutes and one reboot.Use the console The server's own screen and keyboard in your browser, for when SSH can't reach it.Addresses and reverse DNS See every address on your server, set the reverse DNS name for each, rename the server, and ask for another address.Troubleshooting
Locked out, or it won't boot Get back into a server you can't log in to, or that won't start, without losing what is on its disks. Can't find it?
Open a ticket from the portal. A person who can see your servers answers it.
