Help Dedicated servers How-to
Reinstall the operating system
Erase the disks and install a fresh operating system on a dedicated server; your addresses stay the same.
A reinstall erases every disk and lays down a fresh system in about twenty minutes. Your addresses are kept.
Which one do you need?#
The Reinstall tab does three things. Only one of them erases your disks.
| You want to | Choose | Erases disks | Takes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start again with a clean system | Install a system | Every disk | About 20 minutes |
| Get your files off, or fix a system that won't boot | Boot a rescue system | – | A couple of minutes |
| Get back in after losing the root password | Reset the root password | – | About 5 minutes |
