Help Game servers Use the game panel
Upload files over SFTP
Move worlds, modpacks, plugins and bot code to and from your server with FileZilla, WinSCP, Cyberduck or a terminal.
The Files tab is fine for a config or two. For a world, a modpack or a folder of plugins, use SFTP: it's faster, and one failed file doesn't stop the rest.
Find your SFTP details#
On the panel's Settings tab, under SFTP Details:
| You need | Where it is | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Host and port | Server Address, as sftp://host:port | The port is usually not 22. Type the one shown. |
| Username | Username | It ends in a dot and the server's short ID. Each server has its own. |
| Password | Your panel password | Not your portal password. |
Connect#
Pick your system. Every program below is free.
Windows
WinSCP is made for Windows. FileZilla works too, the same as on Linux.
- Open WinSCP. The Login window opens.
- Set File protocol to SFTP.
- In Host name, type the host from the panel, without
sftp://and without the port. - In Port number, type the port from the panel.
- Fill in User name and Password, and press Login.
- The first time, WinSCP asks whether to trust the server's key. Press Accept.
Your computer is on the left and the server on the right. Drag files across.
macOS
Cyberduck is made for the Mac. FileZilla works too, the same as on Linux.
- Open Cyberduck and press Open Connection.
- Choose SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) from the list at the top.
- In Server, type the host from the panel, without
sftp://and without the port. - In Port, type the port from the panel.
- Fill in Username and Password, and press Connect.
- The first time, Cyberduck asks whether to trust the server's key. Press Allow.
Drag files from Finder into the Cyberduck window to upload them.
Linux
FileZilla is in most distributions' software centres, and runs on Windows and macOS too.
- Open FileZilla.
- In the bar along the top, put the whole address from the panel in Host,
sftp://and all, or type the host and put the port in Port. - Fill in Username and Password, and press Quickconnect.
- The first time, FileZilla asks whether to trust the server's key. Tick to always trust it and press OK.
Your computer is on the left and the server on the right. Drag files across.
From a terminal, sftp does the same. Put your own port, username and host in place of the words in capitals:
sftp -P PORT USERNAME@HOSTThen put sends a file, get fetches one, put -r sends a folder and exit closes the connection.
Good habits#
- Stop the server before replacing its world. A running server can write over what you upload.
- Send one
.zip, then Unarchive it from its menu in Files. Much quicker than thousands of files. - Mind the disk. Uploads count towards your plan's disk.
When it won't connect#
| It says | Check |
|---|---|
| Authentication failed | The username from SFTP Details, dot and all, and your panel password |
| Connection timed out or refused | The port: most programs try 22 unless told otherwise |
| Permission denied on a file | The file is in use. Stop the server and try again. |
