Help Game servers Use the game panel

Back up and restore

Take a backup before anything risky, download a copy to keep, and put the server back the way it was in one press.

2 min Updated 7 Nov 2026 Game servers, Discord bots

The panel's Backups tab keeps copies of your server's files. Take one before any update, modpack or version change, and a mistake costs minutes instead of a world. It shows how many your plan allows; a schedule can replace old ones for you.

Take a backup#

  1. On the Backups tab, press Create Backup.
  2. Name it, such as before 1.21 update.
  3. Under Ignored Files, list anything not worth copying, one per line, such as logs.
  4. Tick Locked to keep it from being deleted or replaced by a schedule.
  5. Press Start backup. The server keeps running meanwhile.

Keep a copy of your own#

Backups live with the server, so download the important ones too: open the menu on the backup's row and choose Download. You get a .tar.gz of the server's files.

Restore a backup#

Restoring puts the server's files back as they were when the backup was taken.

  1. Stop the server from the Console tab.
  2. On Backups, open the menu on the backup's row and choose Restore.
  3. Tick Delete all files before restoring backup to get exactly the old server back; leave it to keep files the backup doesn't have.
  4. Confirm, wait for it to finish, and start the server.

Restore only part of it#

To get back one world or one config without touching the rest, download the backup, unpack it on your computer, and upload just the part you want over SFTP. See Upload files over SFTP.

Delete a backup#

Open the menu on the row and choose Delete. If it is locked, choose Unlock first. A deleted backup can't be brought back.
