Start, shut down and reboot
The power buttons on a server's page, what each one does, and when they are greyed out or missing.
The power buttons sit at the top right of the server's page, on every tab. A running server shows these:
- 1Console Opens the Console tab, the server's screen in your browser.
- 2Reboot Restarts the server. Connections drop, and it's back in a minute or so.
- 3Shut down Asks the system to shut down cleanly, and powers off after a minute if it hasn't.
- 4Force off Cuts the power at once, like pulling the plug. Use it only when Shut down doesn't work.
A stopped one shows these:
- 1Start Turns the server on. It doesn't ask first.
Reboot, Shut down and Force off ask you to confirm. Then a new line appears in Activity on the Overview tab: Working, then Done or the reason it failed.
Buttons greyed out or missing#
| What you see | Why |
|---|---|
| A button is greyed out | The server is already in that state. |
| No buttons at all | We can't read the server's state right now, so we won't act on it. Try again in a minute. |
| Only Pay and restore | The server is suspended for an unpaid invoice. Your data is untouched. |
| A note about your role | Your role can't change servers. The account owner can give you more. |
Press the same button many times quickly and the portal asks you to wait a moment.
