A payment is late or declined
What happens when a renewal isn't paid, the dates that matter, and how to put it right.
A late renewal is marked Payment due, and nothing changes straight away. Paying at any point puts everything back as it was.
What happens, and when#
| When | What happens | Your server |
|---|---|---|
| The renewal date | The invoice is due. With a saved method, we try to charge it. | Running |
| 3, 7 and 14 days after, if declined | We try the same method again | Running until it is suspended |
| Usually 7 days after | Suspended if still unpaid | Stopped, data kept |
| About a week after suspending | A person at Darkless reviews it. Nothing is deleted automatically. | Suspended |
| Whenever you pay | Everything is put back | Running again |
Your own dates are in the band on Billing, on the service's row under Subscriptions, and in our emails.
- 1Pay $20.00 Opens the overdue invoice, ready to pay.
Why it happened#
- No saved payment method. The renewal waited for you to pay it by hand.
- Your saved method was declined. Each try is listed on the invoice's page. Nothing was taken on those.
- 1Declined A try that failed, when, and on which method.
Put it right#
- Pay the invoice. A suspended service resumes automatically. Your renewal date doesn't move.
- If the card was declined, use another card or PayPal.
- So it doesn't happen again, save a payment method that works.
Don't want it any more? You can end an overdue service yourself, which cancels the unpaid invoice too: see Cancel a service.
